The hustle and bustle of the daily grind might burn you out, so it’s a good idea to take a break every once in a while. You need to go on a vacation, but you also want to skip the hassle of booking flights and accommodations and creating itineraries. If that sounds like you, you need a staycation!
What is a staycation?
A staycation is a vacation you take at or near your home. For most people, it means staying at a fancy hotel or a nearby resort. It’s best for when your work doesn’t allow you the time to go on a long trip or if you just want to take a little time off to relax and unwind. A staycation doesn’t involve a lot of things—just you, a cozy bed, good food, and a relaxing environment.
Your home, upgraded
You don’t even have to go anywhere but your home to have a staycation. To make your own space feel like a vacation spot, play your favorite music, order in, and sip a mimosa! You may even turn your home into an at-home spa with DIY face masks or sheet masks. Get those nails done, get a massage from your kids, and just generally treat yourself all within the comfort of your home. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, book a hotel room nearby and eat at a fancy restaurant. Vacations don’t need to be so out of the way. Besides, you wouldn’t want to go through the stress of planning a trip and dealing with jetlag. All you need is within your reach!
Added Benefits
Staycationing means less carbon footprint. You wouldn’t have to travel so much, so you wouldn’t use transportation that has lots of greenhouse emissions. If you do choose to travel a little bit, you’ll be supporting the local economy because you will only be consuming goods and services available close by. You may even opt for a local boutique hotel instead of 5-star commercial accommodations for added character and lesser cost.
Will it work for you?
If you want little to no travel, minimal planning, and general R&R, then a staycation is for you! If you want to go soul-searching a la Eat Pray Love, you might want to go on a trip and really explore what’s out there. With limited time, a staycation will suffice. Soul-searching is optional.
